The most extraordinary new construction projects coming soon

Despite the fact that construction in the Netherlands seems to be at a relative standstill due to the nitrogen crisis, this does not mean that no new construction projects are being realised at all. Contractors and architects have started building special new construction projects. This includes a number of ambitious projects. What can we expect soon and what are the plans?

Special new-build projects

Among others, a Hotel van der Valk is being built along the motorway in Zoetermeer. This hotel would be no less than 74 metres high and former mayor Charlie Aptroot was already very proud of it. In addition, a new residential area is being built in Groningen, with as many as 320 rented homes. And the special project 'De Korenpassage' in Apeldoorn also deserves a place in this list.

Van der Valk Hotel with built-in casino

The Hotel van der Valk with an indoor casino is a project that has been discussed in Zoetermeer for years. It was over five years ago that former mayor Charlie Aptroot proudly tweeted about the plans to build a 74-metre-high hotel. The intention was to start construction soon. But five years later, the hotel is still not there. The subcontractors have yet to procure, and last February construction finally only really started, a spokesperson for the hotel concern told Omroep West earlier.

The hotel will be located at the Lansinghage business park. The hotel will have two hundred rooms, a meeting room, restaurant, wellness with swimming pool and a casino. In recent years, casinos have increasingly taken up residence in hotels, just as they often do in Las Vegas. Zoetermeer currently has few casinos, leaving many residents to rely on online gambling without CRUKS. A wider range of gambling games can be found online than in the land-based casino, which often requires travelling as well. With the arrival of the prestigious new building project, Zoetermeer residents will soon have a good choice between offline or online gambling.

HOLT in Groningen

For another special project, we travel to Groningen. There, on the corner of Van Swietenlaan and Laan Corpus den Hoorn, a new construction project is being erected. This project is called 'HOLT' and can be found on the former ALO site. The project has quite a lot going for it: 320 homes will be built and the project aims to create a living environment that combines the dynamics of the city with the necessary green spaces. The neighbourhood has several public spaces, where it is possible to meet. In this way, there should be more of a sense of community. The combination of urban facilities and green spaces would be unique and make the project a special one within Groningen's new housing stock, according to a couple of Groningen estate agents, among others.

We agree with that too, as a residential tower will be built, among other things, as well as normal houses. The new buildings are intended for starters, vulnerable young people and the elderly. About 40 per cent will be rental housing, of which 20 per cent will be social housing. Half of the neighbourhood will consist of a publicly accessible park. Construction has been underway for two years and completion is expected soon.

The Korenpassage in Apeldoorn

It is eagerly awaited: the start of construction of the Korenpassage in Apeldoorn. The owners of the project are so proud of it that the start of the new-build project has been placed in capital letters on its front page. The project will be located in the heart of Apeldoorn. Twenty-six sturdy town houses will be built to meet the need for modern and urban living space. The houses have been designed by the architect with functionality in mind, but also aesthetics. The use of sustainable materials and climate-friendly construction methods has been taken into account. The homes are close to the centre of Apeldoorn, so important amenities are never far away. The intention is for the Korenpassage to contribute to enlivening the city centre area. A particularly ambitious plan, the final result of which we would like to admire in a few years' time.
