Will I have good internet in my new home soon?

Buying or selling your house involves a lot of things. For this, we often hire an expert estate agent who can use his or her expertise to get you a good deal. The first things to consider are the location, budget and, for example, the sustainability label. But there is more to buying a house than its surface area, year of construction and energy label. Often only after the interior of the new house is ready is the Internet options considered.

Availability

Even so, it is advisable to check which Wi-Fi subscription is available at a certain address even before handing over the keys. In many rural areas, for instance, there is no fibre optic cable yet and there probably won't be one. This has to do with the costs and benefits that such a connection entails. It is therefore important that when buying or renting a house, you do not only look at the location, price and finish of the property. After all, good internet with stable Wi-Fi and a fixed connection is very important these days. Go ahead and tell your children that there is no internet and TV subscription 'yet'. That will definitely not make them happy.

Advantages and disadvantages of each scenario

Basically, the bottom line is that you can choose from three internet connection variants as we discussed above. For instance, fibre has the advantage of having very high speeds of more than 1 gigabyte. It is a very stable network and is available at many addresses in the Netherlands. In addition, you also have 5G Click and Ready. For this, you do not need a cable but simply plug your modem into the wall socket. With this, you use the mobile 5G network for your internet at home. Finally, you have the standard copper internet. This usually provides an average good connection. So weigh all the pros and cons carefully and most importantly, 'Is it available?'

Postcode check

You cannot tell from the outside or inside of your house what kind of connection is available at your address. For that, you can always do a postcode check online. Then you can also immediately see what internet speeds are available for your home. You can then discuss with your family which speed is optimal for you, also taking into account homework or sending very large files and downloading legal films.

If you move into a new house, you often still have to set up the internet, TV, Wi-Fi and smart devices yourself. Keep in mind that this can still be quite a tricky job. Should it turn out that the wifi on an upper floor does not work optimally, there is often the option of installing extra wifi amplifiers. Those Wi-Fi points are best placed centrally, in the attic or in frequently used rooms. This way, you will always have an optimal signal. Because they are separate, you can still move them at any time. Finally, the security of your network is crucial. So use a virus scanner to protect your devices against malware and hackers. Several good parties can be found online for this. And do not use the password welcome01 or 0000 for logging into your Wi-Fi network.
