October Living Month 2024: Growth in purchasing power and sustainability

Recent CBS research shows that gross national income will have increased by 8.1% by 2023. So the average Dutchman has more money to spend. A boost for companies looking to capitalise on October Living Month, as it is just around the corner again. Floor and window decoration specialist Floorsee sees opportunities for a successful home decoration month. They also notice interesting developments in the field of sustainability.

Opportunities for companies

Besides the rise in GNI, purchasing power is also on the rise. This is according to the recently published August estimate by the Central Planning Bureau. They indicate a 2.5% increase in purchasing power in 2024.For companies, this increased purchasing power offers opportunities during October Living Month 2024. After all, the average Dutchman has more money to spend.

Sustainability

Within the residential sector, sustainability is becoming increasingly important, Floorsee also notices. The demand for sustainable floors and window decoration is increasing from consumers. Ingrid van Olst, owner of Floorsee, says: 'More and more customers are interested in sustainable floors and window decoration. For instance, they want to know more about the production process and the materials used in it. They make a very conscious choice to furnish their home sustainably.

In addition, Ingrid notices that the range of suppliers is also becoming more sustainable, and new initiatives are emerging. One notable new trend in this respect is the 'floor return' initiative. When a floor is removed, the floor fitter takes the old floor and the remains of the new floor with him. This material is then used again for a new floor. In this way, companies leave the smallest possible ecological footprint.

Circular economy

From 2050, each manufacturer will be responsible for the end-of-life cycle of its own products. This means that every product must then be 100% circular. This will affect the supply of sustainable products now and in the future. Consumers will increasingly pay attention to the sustainability of the products they buy and also to the recycling process. Companies that provide transparency in their production and offer circular products are likely to be more successful. So too during October Living Month.
