Properties for sale in Eindhoven

When you think of Eindhoven, you probably immediately think of Philips, of innovation and of Dutch Design. But maybe you do not think of technology and innovation at all, but you are looking for a house. Eindhoven may be known for design and light bulbs, but it is also a very pleasant city to live in, as it has been the vibrant heart of the province of Noord-Brabant for years. If you want to know what living in Eindhoven is like and whether there are any properties for sale in Eindhoven, then read on.

Homes for sale in Eindhoven: Newly built homes and projects

With more than 230,000 inhabitants, Eindhoven has been the fifth largest city in the Netherlands since 1961. The city experienced explosive growth in the last century due to the match-making industry and later the Philips light bulb factories. During its expansion, Eindhoven annexed a large number of surrounding hamlets and smaller villages such as Woensel, Acht and Gestel.

In terms of the number of dwellings, Eindhoven also ranks fifth. Eindhoven has approximately 104,000 addresses of which almost half are owner-occupied. Because Eindhoven is becoming more and more popular as a place to live, a lot of construction work is being done to meet the ever-increasing demand. The municipality of Eindhoven plans to deliver at least 15,000 homes by 2022. These homes are to be built on almost 250 different locations throughout the municipality such as Strijp-S, Strijp-R, the Kruidenbuurt and even in the city centre.

Houses for sale in Eindhoven: diversity in the various residential areas

Eindhoven has many faces. There are a number of different neighbourhoods, each with its own character, where homes for sale are available in Eindhoven. The Woensel district, a former independent municipality north of Eindhoven, has the largest housing stock. Woensel consists of a northern and a southern part and forms the largest district in Eindhoven with over 100,000 inhabitants. The oldest part of the city is the Centre and the De Bergen district, which is known as Eindhoven's Latin Quarter. These are very popular neighbourhoods for finding a house to buy, because you live close to all amenities and entertainment venues. The Stratum neighbourhood is close to the south of the centre and is also very popular because it borders nature such as the Eikenburg estate.

The Strijp is the former 'forbidden city' of Philips, an industrial park where you could only go if you worked at Philips. Nowadays, many old Philips buildings have been converted into business premises or homes and it is a popular neighbourhood for start-ups, restaurants and new-builds. De Strijp is a lively area where many young people in particular go to buy a house. The new Meerhoven district is particularly popular with people who love nature.

Houses for sale in Eindhoven: demographics and living enjoyment

In terms of inhabitants, Eindhoven is a fairly young city. If you look at the demographics of the city you can see that the majority is aged between 20 and 29. Many young people who have studied at the TU, the Design Academy or one of the four other universities of applied sciences continue to live in the city, but the start-ups and popular neighbourhoods such as Strijp-S also attract many young people.

Therefore, there is a lot to do in the city. You will find a large number of shops, there are many restaurants and numerous places of entertainment. Eindhoven has one of the largest theatres in the Netherlands, the Park Theatre, and the pop stage de Effenaar is known far beyond the city boundaries. Culture lovers will appreciate Eindhoven for the van Abbemuseum, the Designhuis and the annually recurring Design Week. Even if you like peace and quiet and nature, you can still choose to buy a house in Eindhoven. One third of the city's public spaces consist of parks and in the south the city borders on old oak woods where you can take lovely walks and cycle rides.

If you are curious about whether there are any houses for sale in Eindhoven because you want to live in this great city, ask a recognised NVM estate agent like Easie about the possibilities.
