These major new construction projects will soon be completed or are about to start
Although it may not seem so, the Netherlands is still busy building. This includes a mixed-use project being built in Amsterdam-Zuid. Think of an imposing complex with two residential towers of 115 and 100 metres high, respectively. Companies are also quietly continuing to build. This way, there will be more housing, and also more space for guests for an evening out.
New construction projects in the Netherlands
Despite the nitrogen lock, there are a lot of construction projects that continue as normal. Think, for example, of the construction of The Ensemble in Amsterdam-Zuid, the Zalmhaven in Rotterdam or the construction of an entertainment venue like the HC in Groningen. In any case, we have plenty of new construction projects to look forward to in the near future.
The Ensemble in Amsterdam-Zuid
One of the biggest projects to be completed in 2025 is in Amsterdam-Zuid. It involves two residential towers of 115 and 100 metres high. A total of 592 rental homes will soon be available. These are homes such as compact studios to more spacious flats. A significant proportion of these homes are intended for the middle segment. There will also be 59 social rental homes and the rest of the rental homes are intended for the free sector. Furthermore, The Ensemble has 19,000 square metres of office space and 50,000 square metres for commercial and social facilities. Among others, it will house a catering facility, a health centre and various sports facilities. Designed with sustainability in mind, the project features solar panels, a green roof and a near-zero energy design.
The Zalmhaven in Rotterdam
The tallest tower at the Zalmhaven in Rotterdam has been completed for some time, but the entire complex is not yet finished. It will probably be completed by the end of this year. Still, it is a picture to behold, as this is three tower. At 215 metres, Zalmhaven I is the tallest residential tower in the Benelux. There are also two lower towers, each 70 metres high. Located on the river Maas in the Scheepvaartkwartier, the project has just over 450 flats, including owner-occupied houses and 33 townhouses. There is also space for commercial activities. Standing atop a tall building, you can hardly miss the Zalmhaven on the skyline! The project is not only iconic for its height, but also looks very luxurious.
A casino establishment in Groningen
When it comes to commercial activities, there is plenty of interesting stuff coming up too. The construction of the new Holland Casino in the municipality of Tynaarlo at Businesspark Ter Borch has not yet started. The Holland Casino in Groningen on Gedempte Kattendiep burned down in August 2017. After that, the casino was temporarily housed at Sontplein. New building plans were then developed, but construction has still not started. It may not be until 2027 or 2028. Earlier reports spoke of an opening in 2027, but that is unlikely to happen. It should be a special eye-catcher along the A7, inspired by the reed landscape of the Onlanden. The choice of Tynaarlo instead of Groningen has led to a lot of discussion. The city believes it will lose millions in revenue. The new casino meets the latest sustainability and engineering requirements and should deliver the ultimate nightlife experience. Whether that is really the case remains to be seen.
In any case, don't want to gamble at the land-based casino, for instance because of cruks? Then you can gamble online at a casino without cruks and have fun there. This way, you can gamble without having to leave your house. Moreover, the online casino is open 24/7. A land-based casino, on the other hand, has limited opening hours.
World Forum Campus in The Hague
At the end of the year, we have something else to look forward to, as that is when World Forum Campus in The Hague opens. This building is supposed to become a leading international conference and meeting centre. The building will be modernised and further new construction will also take place, as the existing World Forum building will be substantially expanded. The intention is to create a state-of-the-art venue that meets all the requirements for international conferences and events. Key elements of the new building are the use of modern technology and the availability of more flexible spaces. Completion is expected at the end of 2025, by which time the building - including new construction - will be ready for the future.
